Steroid Injections

Steroid injections are used to treat swollen or painful joints, painful tendons, bursitis or muscle pain. You may get this type of pain after an injury, over-use or if you have arthritis.
Steroid injections usually help relieve pain and swelling to make movement easier. The results may be very quick. The benefits can last for many months, even up to a year, but the results are unpredictable. You may need to have repeated injections, depending on your condition. They are usually very safe and can be given in a clinic, however infection is a possibility.
After the injection your joint pain and swelling may immediately feel worse but this pain usually goes away within a few days.

Steroids may be Hydrocortisone or Corticosteroid. Corticosteroids are not the same as anabolic steroids and do not have systemic effects.
